09 Aug It’s Official! OIC Granted Vocational Training License
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OIC of South Florida (OIC-SFL) is expanding its reach! OIC-SFL has been granted a provisional license by the Commission for Independent Education (credentialing body for the Florida Department of Education) to expand its workforce development and career advancement training offerings.
Starting in 2019, this provisional license will allow OIC-SFL to begin offering the community additional short-term (3 months), industry-recognized certifications in the following areas:
- Construction Operations
- Comp TIA A+
- Food Service Operations
- Warehouse Logistics
For the last 17 years, OIC of South Florida (OIC-SFL) has provided workforce development, education and training to youth and adults in order to prepare them for the world of work, while reducing the barriers to employment and empowering youth aspirations.
“Due to the eligibility requirements of our state and local government funded programs, at times, individuals do not qualify for enrollment. This new license enhances our curriculum delivery model, while opening the door for us to improve the lives of more unemployed and underemployed Miami-Dade and Broward County residents,” said Edward Tordesillas, OIC-SFL Workforce Director.
This license will allow individuals who do not qualify for OIC-SFL’s traditional evidence-based programs to apply to OIC-SFL via other funded organizations. OIC-SFL will further realize its mission and have the opportunity to serve more unemployed and underemployed individuals within the community. OIC-SFL is also excited about being able to provide its current clients/students the opportunity for continuous vocational training and career advancement.
Additionally, this license affords OIC of South Florida the opportunity to expand its suite of vocational trainings by its own qualified instructors. “A job is so much more than an income. It provides our clients/students with a sense of pride and self-sufficiency. Thanks to our impressive Workforce Development programs and the license, we will provide South Florida residents with two (2) roads to success, accompanied by quality case management and support services to ensure long-term success. Our clients/students’ chosen road to success will be based on their past work experience, career interests/skill-set assessment, and aptitude for success,” said Newton Sanon, OIC of South Florida President & CEO.
OIC of South Florida (OIC-SFL) is a beacon of hope through its ability to serve as a community-based workforce, job development, and training organization. OIC-SFL focuses on the unemployed, underemployed, unskilled, and those with barriers to self-sufficiency due to past indiscretions in their background via our various Adult Workforce Development initiatives. OIC-SFL also seeks to proactively address the vicious cycles of poverty via our Youth & Family Services Division. By partnering with local schools and government agencies, OIC-SFL is able to successfully provide career awareness and readiness programming annually to over 7,000 students in middle school and high school.
