Project LIFT Program Highlights

From network support technicians to machining technologists, the battle for the best in information technology (IT) and advanced manufacturing talent is forecasted to continue for years to come. Thanks to funding from the U.S. Department of Labor and in partnership with The Academy and Broward College, OIC of South Florida’s (OIC-SFL) Project LIFT program is ensuring Broward County families are attaining the skill-sets for these in-demand career opportunities. “When Broward County’s talent pool is marketable, employers’ businesses are profitable and our communities are strengthened, thriving and self-sufficient,” said Newton Sanon, President & CEO of OIC of South Florida.

The Project LIFT program provides scholarship opportunities, childcare and other supportive services, job placement assistance, and even paid work experience to 400 low to medium skilled parents in Broward County to advance their careers in Informational Technology and Advance Manufacturing industries. OIC of South Florida understands that due to community barriers or family circumstances some Broward County residents’ aspirations become derailed. Maybe it was because they couldn’t afford the tuition cost, or they had to stall their dreams to help support the family financial obligations. OIC-SFL is delighted to assist community residents with removing the barriers to self-sufficiency and to partner with Employers in identifying qualifying employees with an interest in information technology or advanced manufacturing training and/or career advancement.

In as little as two (2) weeks (tier one trainings) or two (2) years (tier two trainings), participants of the Project LIFT program can earn a training certification up to an associate degree in Information Technology or Advanced Manufacturing. OIC-SFL is here to support and to develop the participants’ customized career plan.
