News Release
OIC of South Florida (OIC-SFL) is expanding its reach! For the past 19 years, OIC-SFL has provided workforce development, education, and training to youth and adults in order to prepare them for the world of work, while reducing the barriers to employment and empowering youth aspirations. Even so, with the increased demand for middle-skilled workers (i.e., jobs requiring more than a high school diploma, but less than a college degree), OIC-SFL realized the need to expand its suite of training offerings.
In 2019, thanks to the licensure awarded by the Florida Department of Education, Commission for Independent Education (CIE), OIC-SFL began offering the community short-term (3 months), industry-recognized certifications in the following areas:
Derek Fuller and Steven Raymond (pictured above) enrolled in OIC Workforce Academy’s starting class of twenty-two (22) students. This license allow individuals who do not qualify for OIC-SFL’s traditional evidence-based programs to apply to OIC-SFL via other funded organizations. OIC-SFL can now further realize its mission and have the opportunity to serve more unemployed individuals within the community. Whether its 1 to 4 weeks (tier 1 & 2 trainings) or 12 weeks (tier 3 trainings), OIC-SFL is excited about being able to provide its clients/students the opportunity for continuous vocational training and career advancement, regardless of their aptitude for success!
“A job is so much more than an income. It provides our clients with a sense of pride and self-sufficiency. Thanks to our impressive Workforce Development programs and the dedication of our Training & Education staff, we are meeting our clients “where they are.” Our clients’ chosen road to success will be based on their past work experience, career interests/skill-set assessment(s), and aptitude for success,” said Newton Sanon, OIC of South Florida President & CEO.
