Newton B. Sanon Appointed to the Florida Foundation for Correctional Excellence Board

Fort Lauderdale, FL- October 18, 2022– OIC of South Florida’s (OIC-SFL) President and CEO Newton B. Sanon has been appointed to serve on the Florida Foundation for Correctional Excellence (FFCE) inaugural Board of Directors. In 2020, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his intention to create FFCE as a direct support organization to inspire innovative collaborations between public and private partners and increase investment in re-entry programs and workforce training. The first board will convene in November.

“Reducing recidivism, expanding career readiness training and re-entry programs are a vital component of the public safety mission of the Florida Department of Corrections,” said Governor DeSantis. “We have to do more to get inmates ready for release – ready to be employees and to be productive members of our communities. The Florida Foundation for Correctional Excellence will bring public and private sector partners together to take our efforts to the next level.”
