Expanding Workforce Access in Brownsville

At OIC of South Florida, we know that access to opportunity can change the trajectory of an individual, a family, and ultimately, an entire community.

Thanks to a generous $50,000 investment from the Edward S. Moore Family Foundation, OIC is expanding its reach in Miami-Dade County through the Brownsville Workforce Access and Family Pathways Initiative.

The initiative is designed to connect Brownsville residents and families with workforce development services, career navigation, training pathways, and supportive resources that can help remove barriers to employment and long-term economic mobility.

During the initiative’s first year, OIC plans to engage 100 to 150 Brownsville residents through community outreach, neighborhood events, referrals, and information sessions. An estimated 30 to 50 residents will be enrolled in or connected to OIC workforce development services, training pathways, career navigation, or supportive services.

For participants facing additional barriers, OIC will provide enhanced wraparound support designed to help individuals remain engaged and move successfully along their career pathway.

But the work goes beyond traditional workforce programming.

OIC also plans to host Brownsville-based workforce access and community engagement events and pilot youth and family career pathway experiences in partnership with Brownsville Middle School or another neighborhood partner. These experiences will introduce young people and families to career possibilities while strengthening connections between education, workforce development, and economic opportunity.

Equally important, the initiative will help OIC deepen relationships with neighborhood stakeholders and better understand the specific barriers Brownsville residents face. Participant experiences, services provided, early outcomes, and success stories will be documented through a year-one impact and learning report to help inform future programming and investment.

The Edward S. Moore Family Foundation’s support represents more than an investment in a program. It is an investment in people, families, and the future of the Brownsville community.

Together, we are creating greater access to opportunity and helping more South Florida residents build pathways to sustainable careers and long-term economic mobility.
