Job Title: Employment Specialist
Reports to: Workforce Program Manager
Work Location: Miami-Dade & Broward County
Status: Fulltime
Salary Range: $38,500 – $43,000
OIC of South Florida is a community-based leader in providing quality self-help skills and employment opportunities for disadvantaged and underemployed residents; thus, assisting them to become self-sufficient and productive members of society. Its work is accomplished through four divisions: Workforce Development, Youth & Families, Training & Education and OIC Strategic Integration (Social Enterprise Cooperation).
The Role:
The Employment Specialist is responsible for providing educational guidance and assistance for students by The Employment Specialist is responsible for conducting B2B sales, public relations, marketing and recruiting to link businesses with potential resources and qualified candidates. This will position promotes and develops employment and on-the-job training opportunities for OIC participants. Demonstrates to employers the effectiveness and profitability of employing unemployed, underemployed as well as individuals that have less than desirable backgrounds by identifying jobs that workers can perform in.
Note: Depending on the assigned programs in Miami-Dade county, this position could be required to pass a level-2 Background Clearance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops and disseminates information to groups and individuals to promote increased awareness of OIC of South Florida and its programs.
- Participates in outreach and recruitment activities by assisting in event coordination and attending job fairs.
- Places eligible participants in paid employment, on-the-job training, registered apprenticeships, paid internships, and work experiences, as appropriate.
- Provides guidance and monitor participant career development based on identified employment goals.
- Provides orientation and career counseling to eligible participants.
- Along with the Director of Employer and Workforce Partnerships, supports the coordination and facilitation of the Industry Advisory Committee.
- Actively engages and recruits’ employers in need of labor resources and updates databases as needed.
- Monitors current events and Labor Market data to advise immediate supervisor and peers of trends and recommends activities to address them.
- Participate in regular staff, case staffing, in-service, and other meetings.
- Assist participants in assessing their job skills for employment; instructs participants in application procedures, interviewing preparation.
- Instruct in job seeking, application procedures, resume writing, interview preparation, and job retention.
- Provide job search/career information workshops and presentations.
- Submit timely and accurate reports and data related to the program and participants.
- Conduct assessments to assist participants in identifying specific jobs based on KSAs and interests.
- Work with participants to develop job seeker and employment portfolios.
- Arrange interviews for participants based on job matching.
- Conduct follow-up services with participants to increase rate of job retention.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in field related to the provision of employment services.
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in workforce development, recruiting, business development, marketing or any combination of training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties as described.
- Experience working with at-risk populations, including but not limited to unemployed, underemployed and individuals with less than desirable backgrounds preferred.
